Etsy Interview with SB Doodles and Designs - Yahoo! Voices - voices.yahoo.com

First off, tell me a little bit about yourself.

I'm the creator of . I am a 33 year old mom of a 2 year old, and am expecting baby #2 in about 7 ? weeks. I worked full time as a physical therapist, but made the decision to stay at home when our son Winston was born. I live in Wilmington, Delaware with my husband Brandon, Winston, and 6 cats, plus one stray cat who adopted us. I have a passion for art and animals! In my spare time, I volunteer at a rescue center for homeless cats. I consider myself 99% right-brained, and love to express myself creatively.

How and when did you start making and your other items?

I became interested in jewelry making when I became a full time stay at home mom. When I was pregnant with Winston, I met a woman and her daughter who started their own jewelry business, and I had thought to myself, "that would be really fun and worthwhile to do!" Once I was at home full time,Stud Earrings, I was able to concentrate on new designs for my jewelry and other artistic pieces. I love coming up with creative and vibrant designs that can be considered wearable pieces of art, or at least a conversation piece. I have also enjoyed painting my whole life, and can spend hours painting anything, whether it is a picture to hang, wall mural, or piece of furniture. I recently spent about 20 hours painting a Dr. Seuss themed mural in the nursery for baby number 2. I also love to explore garage sales for used furniture that can be "upcycled" into modern and funky pieces.

When and how did you originally find Etsy?

I first was introduced to Etsy through a friend. She had complimented me on a necklace that I had made, and asked if I ever sold any of my jewelry online. She recommended using Etsy as a way to market my jewelry and other artistic designs. I clicked on the site, and was instantly hooked!

What is unique about Etsy and what about the website do you like the most in regards to your shop?

Etsy is unique in that it provides a wonderful outlet to display and market the designs I love to share with people in a very affordable fashion. Listing an item at my shop, "," is very simple, and the shop appearance is extremely organized. In the profile section, I can introduce myself and allow potential buyers to get to know me a little better. I also love the fact you can browse other artisan shops and buy items from them through easy transactions. You can find almost anything on Etsy, and the items listed make wonderful unique gifts. There are so many talented artists on Etsy!

What inspires you the most in regards to your creations?

Honestly, most of my inspirations and ideas for my designs come to me at night. I may be sleeping, and at 3 am an idea will come into my head of how to design a piece of jewelry, or what to paint next. I am also inspired by my son Winston, and what his interests are. Since having him, I have become very in tune to what cartoon characters are popular among the little ones. They help inspire my painted children's items. In my shop, "SB Doodles and Designs," I have a hand painted rocking chair for sale with the cartoon character "Diego" on it. My son Winston gets a big smile on his face every time he sees it. I hope to paint more children's rocking chairs in the near future depicting other characters.

A lot of my inspirations for my jewelry creations come from nature. Many ideas come to me from strolling along the beach, walking in the woods, or looking at a flower garden. I love bright, vibrant colors and try to include them in many of my jewelry pieces to really make them stand out. Utilizing bold colored flowers in my jewelry is a great way to liven it up.

What is your favorite piece you've created and why?

I do not think I have a single favorite piece that I have created. I try to create all of my designs so they will be an instant favorite for someone. I have a very eclectic style, and most of my work you will find in my shop, "," has a stylish and modern vibe to it. Before creating a piece of art, I will ask myself, "will you wear this, or would you buy this for your home," and that helps me design accordingly. I try to ensure that someone who has bought one of my designs gets as much enjoyment and fun from it as I have had in creating it.

What do you want to accomplish with your online shop?

Using , I am hoping to introduce people to myself and my designs, and appeal to those looking for unique and eclectic pieces of painted art and jewelry. I want customers to be happy and completely satisfied with any design they purchase from me, and hopefully they will come back in the future.

Do you have any new creations in the works? If so, what can shoppers expect to see from you soon?

I am currently working on several modern and brightly colored pieces of jewelry, including earrings, hair pins, bracelets and necklaces. I am hoping to post more children's items in my shop as well, including rocking chairs for toddlers and hand painted clothing items. Also, at some point in the future, I would like to start creating my own line of organic beauty and skin products. So, please be on the look out!
